Choosing the right SSL certificate can be daunting with so many acronyms flying around. However, the choice basically boils down to the level of trust and validation you need for your business.

Domain Validation (DV)

Best for: Personal blogs, small portfolios, and informational sites.

This is the basic level. The CA only verifies that you own the domain. It offers encryption but zero identity assurance. It's fast, cheap, and easy.

Organization Validation (OV)

Best for: Corporate websites, educational institutions, and small businesses.

Here, the CA verifies that your organization is a legal entity. Clicking on the padlock details will show your company name, offering a higher level of trust to visitors.

Extended Validation (EV)

Best for: E-commerce, banking, and enterprise applications.

The gold standard. This involves a rigorous vetting process. It signals the highest level of authenticity. If you handle sensitive customer data or payments, EV is the recommended choice to maximize conversion rates and trust.
